August 20, 2015, LeBron James arrived in Manila to participate in the Nike Rise program where underprivileged kids with exemplary basketball skills receive professional training; therefore, harnessing their capabilities and opening opportunities for a promising future. This is the second time James flew in to visit his Filipino fans. The event held at the Nike House of Rise started with a press conference hosted by Boom Gonzales.
Twelve kids were named as the official Nike Rise representatives. After which, the basketball superstar joined all of the Rise kids aspirants at the Mall of Asia Arena to shoot hoops. LeBron did not disappoint when he engaged the kids in a series of dunk shots which had the crowd roaring.
Basketball fanatics filled the arena with resounding cheering. “LBJ! LBJ! LBJ!”, they hailed. LeBron reciprocated the warm reception by stirring the crowd into a frenzy with his unparalleled moves. The Rise kids were in awe to see the King in his mojo. King James left everyone in ecstasy that the memory of the showdown is considered a milestone in the Philippine basketball history.
Algin Andaya, one of the Rise kids shared with Inquirer.net his insuppressible delight. Sobrang saya na maka laro si LeBron na nakikita ng madaming tao. Habang buhay itong nasa ‘min”, he said. It was not just the kids and the spectators who basked in elation but also King James himself. His words were, “I’m happy to be here and to have my final stop of this whole tour to be here. That’s special.”
