Sheer dedication, that’s what teacher Elizabeth Miranda brings to the table day in and day out, every school day. A true-blue educator, Miranda crosses five rivers just to be able to hold classes in a far flung sitio in Occidental Mindoro. In order to get to the other side of a river, she rides the timbulan, a makeshift floating device that one can sit on. Ronnel Reyes, a local, assists Miranda during her risky treks. He maneuvers the timbulan, while wading through the waters so as to get Miranda to the opposite end of the river. After which, the teacher would proceed heading towards her destination until she reaches deep rushing waters—her cue to get on the timbulan once again. Miranda repeats this process several times on her way to work to fulfill her duties as a devoted server of the academe. This exhausting travel has made her ponder on revisiting her decisions. But she is determined to impart wisdom, instill learnings, and cultivate a desire for knowledge amongst her students. Determined to make a difference, she has put her safety on the line and disregarded her options of other lucrative means of living. Seeing the children receptive to her teaching induces a feeling of accomplishment, something she knows she will not get from another profession, or at the very least, if she taught some place else.
Marching on in spite of the roadblocks ahead, teacher Elizabeth maintains a strong will. She firmly believes in her capability to steer the lives of her pupils to a better future. More than this, she admits that she cannot afford to desert the kids for she has fostered a special bond with them, like a second mother. Elizabeth Miranda, an epitome of unwavering commitment.
Tunay na bayani na ang sakripisyo ay di nabibigyan ng pansin. Saludo kami syo ma'am.
